INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS

Melbourne Handball Club (MHC) has a long history of international visitors and migrants joining our club. These players receive the same membership benefits as everyone else and are eligible to play in leagues and tournaments in Australia. However, to play in the Australian Club Championship or in the Australian National Championship, international players must (as per the rules set out by the International Handball Federation) transfer to the Australian Handball Federation. This is usually an easy process and our team manager will help with acquiring a transfer certificate. The cost of the transfer will depend on which Federation the player was last registered with and the period since their last club game. There are some excemptions. Transfers are always free for amateur players that have not played a game in 24 months and for exchange students.

Some Federations are happy to release players for free. However, if the abovementioned exemptions are not applicable then the IHF will still request a fee. In this case the total cost would be CHF 150.- (approx. AUD 270). Should the releasing Federation request payment then a further CHF 150.- will be added to the cost. In this case the total cost would be CHF 300.- (approx. AUD 540).

Please note that while the club will gladly assist with applying for the transfer certificate, we are not able to assist financially.
